Does Penis Size Matter?

Does Penis Size Matter?

Does penis size matter? Many men worry that their penis is smaller than it should be or that it won’t satisfy a partner or if it is too large for comfort during sex. Culture, stereotypes and the porn industry often portray that men with bigger penises provide the highest level of sexual satisfaction. In some cultures, men often go to extreme measures to try to enlarge their penis; the Indian mystics, known as Sadhus, use weights to stretch their penises from a very young age, whilst the Brazilian tribesmen of Topinama use snake bites to enlarge their penises.

So let’s delve a little deeper on this common question to explore whether penis size really matters.

The Myth of Penis Size

Many people believe that having a bigger penis means better sex and more sexual satisfaction. Culture and media play a big role in shaping how people view penis size, building on the common misconception that penis size does matter. Some cultures see a bigger penis as being a sign of strength and masculinity, and these beliefs are deeply rooted in myths, societal expectations and traditions. Media, like TV shows, adverts, and pornography also influence how people view penis size, emphasising how bigger penises lead to better sexual satisfaction. Pornography, for example, usually features men with unusually large penises which can make some people feel like they don't measure up. Even casual jokes about penis size can further reinforce this myth.

The myth of a ‘normal’ penis has been created by society, more than an actual biological necessity. Men sometimes worry about their penis size, which can affect self confidence, intimate relationships or even getting undressed in communal changing rooms. Knowing that penises, like women’s breasts, come in different shapes and sizes can help promote a healthier body image and reduce these worries and concerns leading to better sexual satisfaction.

These influences can make men worry about their own size and feel insecure about it. It’s important to remember that everyone’s body is different, and there isn’t one ‘right’ penis size.. Being aware of these influences can help people feel more comfortable and confident about their own bodies. That’s why we offer a range of four different sized condoms; trim, regular, large and extra large because we know that penis size does not matter and every penis deserves to have a comfortable and secure fit to help enhance the sexual experience.

Does penis size matter in terms of sexual satisfaction?

Sexual satisfaction is about much more than penis size. It’s about how well partners connect emotionally, talk openly with one another and understand each other. These things create trust and closeness and make sex pleasurable and enjoyable.

Despite what cultural or media influences suggest, the truth is that penis size doesn’t determine sexual satisfaction. People have satisfying sex lives no matter the size of their partner’s penis. What really counts is respecting each other, being open about what you like and being willing to explore pleasurable sensations together.

Focussing too much on penis size can cause unnecessary stress and insecurities. Therefore, to answer the question ‘does penis size matter’. - the answer is no. Talking honestly about what couples sexually want builds a stronger bond and leads to more satisfying experiences.

How to increase sexual satisfaction?

There are a number of ways you can increase sexual satisfaction;

Emotional connection: Feeling emotionally close and understood can make the sexual experience more enjoyable. When partners feel emotionally close, they are more likely to feel safe and secure leading to more honest discussions about their sexual needs and desires. Not only that, but an emotional bond can lead to better sexual chemistry. Therefore, spending time building on intimacy and connection will lead to more sexual satisfaction.

Communication: Talking openly about desires, sexual fantasies and boundaries can also improve sexual satisfaction. Sharing how we feel and what we need is also another way of building on intimacy and emotional connection, making us feel safer with our partner, whilst exploring our sexual fantasies can help ignite a spark back into our relationships, increasing pleasure and sexual satisfaction.

Foreplay: Adding more foreplay into our sexual experience can also increase sexual satisfaction. Foreplay helps to build anticipation and arousal, making sex more pleasurable. When we engage in foreplay, blood flow increases to our genitals, causing our nerve endings to feel more sensitive and pleasurable.

Technique: Knowing how to please your partner and paying attention to how your partner responds is also important for sexual satisfaction. Different techniques can cause different sexual sensations, so being aware of how your partner likes to be touched or what gives them the most pleasure is far more important than penis size.

How to find the right size condom for your penis?

If you are unsure of the right size condom for your penis, there are a few ways you can measure your penis. You can either purchase our shape and size measurer that will give you a demonstration of the four sized condoms that are available, as well as a measuring tool you can use to measure your own penis in order to help you find the best fitting condom for your penis.

Or if you have a measuring tape handy, you can measure the length and width of your penis when the penis is erect.

To measure length:

  • Place a ruler or measuring tape under your erection, with the edge of the tool at the base of your penis.
  • The length is the number (in mm) that you see at the tip of your penis. This is the measurement from the base to the end of your erect penis.

To measure width:

  • Wrap a measuring tape gently around the middle of your erection. If you don’t have a measuring tape, loop a piece of string around your penis and then measure the string with a ruler.
  • The measurement on the tape or string (in mm) is the circumference of your penis.
